1. Don’t take things personally.
This may sound obvious, but if you’re having problems with someone, don’t make it about them. You have to remember that they aren’t doing anything wrong; they just want to be happy. If you think about it, how would you feel if someone was constantly making fun of you? Would you still care about them? Of course not! So, try to keep your focus off of them and onto yourself.
2. Be honest.
If you’ve been lying to yourself about what’s going on, then you need to stop. There’s no point in keeping secrets from yourself. You’ll only end up feeling worse. Instead, tell the truth and let go of any guilt.
3. Talk to friends and family.
You might think that talking to people who know you well won’t help much, but they do. Talking to others helps you realize that you’re not alone in your feelings. Plus, it gives you someone else to vent to.
4. Try to stay positive.
It’s hard to look at the bright side of things when you’re upset, but try to find something good about your situation. Maybe you’ll meet someone great while you’re waiting for him/her. Or maybe you’ll learn some valuable lessons. Either way, you’ll be able to use those experiences to improve yourself.
5. Get out of the house.
When you’re depressed, it’s easy to sit around and mope. But getting out of the house does wonders for your mood. Go for a walk, call a friend, or even play a game of basketball. Whatever you choose, get moving!
6. Find a hobby.
Hobbies are a great way to distract yourself from negative thoughts. Whether it’s reading, playing sports, or drawing, pick something that interests you. Even if it doesn’t seem like it now, you’ll eventually find something that makes you smile.
7. Do something nice for yourself.
Sometimes, we forget to treat ourselves nicely. When you’re down, it’s easy to put yourself last. But, taking time out for yourself is important. Treating yourself to a massage, pedicure, or manicure will boost your spirits.
